Lori Dowty
I feel so lucky and blessed to have a fun, creative career that I love. I began my career in 2001 when I attended Cosmetology Career Center in Dallas, TX. Before that, I graduated from Texas Tech University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. I had always felt I had a natural knack for hair as I loved experimenting on family and friends growing up, but in college I wanted to finish what I started and get my degree. Of course, soon after I somehow landed myself in finance and accounting. Realizing that my true desire is to have a job where I can express my creativity, interact with people and somehow make them feel better, I decided to go for it. And go for it I did and have never looked back!
Upon graduation I apprenticed at an Aveda salon where I enhanced what I learned in school. After that, I eventually became an independent stylist and had great fun doing special occasion styles practically every weekend as there were many formal events going on around Dallas. In 2003 I trained under a long time stylist to learn hair extensions. In 2004 I attended the World Hair Show in Milan, Italy where I broadened my horizons by attending color, cutting, styling, and extension classes and exhibits for 5 days. It was an amazing, inspiring experience.
I moved to Austin in 2006 and have been working at Peacock Salon for 3 years. I love where I work and have amazing co-workers who continue to inspire me, in one way or another. I look foward to meeting new clients as they inspire me as well.
